The Tsi206™ provides comprehensive monitoring and control of primary-side power parameters and safe transmission of data to a companion secondary-side power subsystem controller IC. Providing these primary-side parameters to a secondary-side management device can provide significant system uptime advantages. Hidden fuse faults can be flagged before system downtime occurs. Card-level parameters such as primary-side current and voltage levels can indicate fault trends and drive preventive maintenance activities. Tsi206 also provides control of the intermediate bus isolated power supply during card insertion and extraction. The device can also control in-rush current in 48V circuit cards during hot swap. The Tsi206 provides all these primary-side control and monitoring capabilities. A PI-Link™ interface enables safe transmission of primary side data across the isolation barrier using a low-cost transformer. This link provides data to the Tsi257™ it can be used and stored. In addition, if an un-recoverable error on the secondary side occurs, the Tsi257 can send a signal to the Tsi206 to shutdown primary power. The Tsi206-SIPAV offers two different functions; it can shut down primary power if there is an over voltage and will automatically retry after a fault, whereas the Tsi206-SIPV provides a warning for over voltage and does not retry after a fault. The A variant also transmits a 10-bit value instead of an 8bit value for whatever the customer is using the AUX pin to measure. Business BenefitsIntegrationThe ability to monitor primary side power parameters and transmit these for action has not been possible before. Using PI-Link, the Tsi206 can pass data to a Tsi257 on the secondary side. This communication between primary and secondary side power controllers means better diagnosis of faults before they happen and improved up-time. In addition if an unrecoverable fault occurs on the secondary side, the Tsi206 can receive a signal from the Tsi257 to shutdown primary power. Ease of System DesignBefore this kind of primary side power controller existed, the nature of power system design meant specialized design expertise was needed. Now anyone familiar with digital PCB design can create a “first time right” power system on their card. This part was formerly marketed by Potentia Semiconductor as the PS-1006 and PS-1006A. |
