Overview: In this presentation, architectures for trading off performance vs cost for 3G and WiMAX systems in discussed using Tundra Tsi620 PCI-RapidIO Switch+Bridge with TCI6482 and TCI6487 DSPs. Leveraging antenna interfaces embedded in the TCI6487, PCI interfaces to embedded processors and the Tsi620 embedded RapidIO switch, the system level architectural options and data flow between FPGAs, TCI6487, PCI enabled processors and Tundra's Tsi620 switch is presented. The architectural options presented show how up to $100 of BOM can typically be removed using the Tsi620 while at the same time adding up to 3x the processing capacity leveraging a cluster of TCI6487 DSPs. Finally a development platform that can be seamlessly used with other MicroTCA ecosystem components is introduced.
